The Danish Maritime Authority is responsible for the shipping industry and its framework conditions, the ship and its crew. Today, the Danish merchant fleet consists of approximately 550 larger commercial ships engaged on international voyages, 4,000 fishing vessels, and 7,500 other vessels. In other words, the Danish Maritime Authority is responsible for the following: The construction, equipment and operation of Danish ships (including safety, prevention of terrorism, safety of navigation, manning, occupational health and environmental protection) as well as port state control of foreign ships calling at Danish ports; Ship registration; The training, education, employment, health and social conditions of seafarers; Shipping policy, maritime law as well as national and international industrial policy.
